General Questions
The inflation process is rapid but controlled. Most riders experience firm but comfortable support, not impact.
Most horses react briefly but quickly settle once familiar with the system. We recommend slow introduction and test deployments during training.
Remove the airbag cartridge and follow the cleaning instructions. Do not submerge or machine wash unless stated on the care label.
Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste. Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health. We’re proud to support your local authority in providing local recycling facilities for electrical equipment. To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with this symbol) in your bin.
The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items.
In the UK, distributors including retailers must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. As a responsible retailer, we have met the requirements placed on us by financially supporting the national network of WEEE recycling centres established by local authorities. This is achieved through membership of the national Distributor Take-back scheme (DTS). To find more information on WEEE recycling and to locate your nearest recycling centre please visit the Recycle More website.

Safety, Transport & Limitations
Accidental deployments are very rare. The trigger force required is designed to prevent inflation during normal movement.
Yes, most airlines permit up to two CO₂ cartridges (less than 200 cc) per passenger in checked or carry‑on luggage. Always confirm with the airline beforehand.
Helite airbags are weather‑resistant and suitable for use in rain. Allow to dry naturally after exposure to water.
While Helite airbags offer advanced protection, no system can prevent all injuries. Always wear appropriate protective gear and follow safety guidelines.
-
After a Fall & Servicing
Yes, provided the vest or jacket and airbag bladder show no signs of damage. Simply replace the CO₂ or e‑cartridge and reset the trigger mechanism.
Typically, the airbag remains inflated for 15–20 seconds and then slowly deflates over a few minutes.
Perform a visual inspection before each use, check cartridge integrity, and have the system serviced annually by an authorised Helite technician.
Check that the tether and cartridge are securely fitted. For electronic versions, ensure the LED indicator shows normal operation and the battery is charged.
-
Usage & Everyday Operation
Yes. Each Helite airbag comes complete with a fitted cartridge and instructions for use. For mechanical versions, install and adjust the tether correctly before riding.
Secure the lanyard to a solid, fixed point on the saddle or bike frame. Adjust the length so that it triggers only in the event of a genuine fall.
The system requires around 20–30 kg of force to trigger. If you forget to detach, you will feel a strong pull before the system activates, allowing time to unclip.
Yes, as long as it does not restrict inflation. Avoid tightly fitted layers over the airbag zones.
-
Choosing & Fitting
Measure your back length and chest according to the size guide on each product page. Consider any additional clothing or protection worn underneath.
Yes. Many Helite dealers offer live demonstrations and fitting sessions so you can confirm the right size and comfort before purchase.
Helite offers a range of mechanical and electronic systems for motorcyclists, equestrians, and professionals. Your choice depends on your discipline, budget, and preferred triggering system.

Product Basics
Helite airbag systems use a rapid inflation mechanism (CO₂ cartridge or e‑cartridge) triggered via a tether or sensor. In the event of a fall, the airbag inflates (typically in 60–100 ms) and stabilises the torso, spine, hips and vital organs.
When properly deployed, Helite airbags are designed to protect the spine, thorax, kidneys, hips, tailbone, and internal organs. They also help reduce hyper‑extension of the trunk and provide stabilisation for the head and neck region.
Depending on the model, inflation time is typically between 60 and 100 milliseconds.
Yes. Helite airbags are CE‑certified and tested as personal protective equipment (PPE) by independent certification bodies.
