High-performance algorithm
The OFF ROAD detection mode has been specially developed for developed for the Dakar. It allows to follow at best the movements of the pilot in real time, to analyze the situation and to detect the fall as soon as possible to activate the inflation of the airbag.
However, for a more versatile use, and not only focused on the rally, the vest offers two different modes:
Rallye/Enduro mode: the airbag is activated from 20 km/h to detect most falls.
Adventure/trail mode : the airbag is activated from 18 km/h and is more sensitive to fast movements and movements and shocks.
Both of these modes also have a «sun» function that allows them to inflate at low speeds on this type of fall.
Volume of protection
The OFF ROAD provides 14L of protective volume for maximum impact absorption and coverage of vital areas and inflates quickly in 80 ms.

Jacket with integrated airbag
It integrates the CDU electronic card, the 2 OFF ROAD cartridges and the rigid
protectors. The sleeves of the jacket are removable (could be sold separately). It
also has a space to put a water bag.
CDU electronic card
It analyzes the situation in real time (position of the rider in space, movement,
speed, etc.) and detects accidents or falls. It incorporates a non-removable Lithium
Ion Cylindrical Battery 3.70V 2600mAh. It has 4 cables : a cable to recharge the
battery, two cables to connect the cartridges (locking connector) and a
cable to connect the remote HMI.
CDU electronic card must be used exclusively with OFF-ROAD airbag. You must not
remove it, use it outside, alone or in another textile.
RF characteristics: 868MHz -916MHz (0dBm).
GPS reception frequency: 1565.42 – 1585.42MHz (GPS) / 1602 – 1610 MHz (GNSS).
Cartridge OFF ROAD with pyrotechnic triggering system
It consists of pressurized CO2 gas, a pyrotechnic triggering system and a locking connector . The airbag OFF-ROAD is sold with two new cartridges already installed and ready to use. If a fall or accident is detected, the pyrotechnic triggering system integrated in the cartridge will pierce its cover and release the gas that will inflate the airbag.
After the first inflation, the electronics automatically switch to the other cartridge if it is new, and the airbag becomes operational again
The rigid protectors
They are integrated into the airbag jacket at the front, back, shoulders and elbows.
They absorb shocks and distribute the force of impacts. You must not use the airbag if the pectoral and/or dorsal have been removed.
USB cable
It allows to recharge the battery of the airbag CDU electronic card.
Please note : only the USB cable is supplied, you will then have to connect it to a
standard USB charger (5 VDC).
I want to tell you how the vest potentially saved my life and limbs in remote Scotland. Yesterday, 08/05/26, on a very narrow dirt track, I was trying to give way to a coach approaching from the opposite direction when I lost my footing and fell down a 25-foot ditch. Luckily, I was wearing the Helite vest, which immediately inflated as I left the motorcycle, and I could feel nothing as I bounced down. It was definitely not a roll as I bounced a few times, all the way down on grass and stones. The vest is fine, that is how strongly it’s made, it did its job brilliantly, and besides a bruise on my shin, I just walked away with a bruised ego. I always carry a spare canister and fitted a new one when we stopped at the next stop. The bike luckily did not follow me down and stayed on the top.

Some years back (I’m going to guess about 7 ?) Helite came to a CWAM (Coventry and Warkwickshire Advanced Motorcyclists) social evening and gave a presentation on their airvests. Shortly after, a friend of ours (Lee Vigor) was involved in an accident where the airvest saved his life. That was the final push for us, and we went out and bought a vest each … myself one of the original designs, and Tess one of the newly-out Turtle 1’s Over the many miles since, they’ve served us well and always been worn, albeit starting to look a little tired from the many, many hours and weathers they’ve had to endure. Two weeks ago on 4th April, the worst thing happened. On a roundabout in South Wales a car driver decided he wanted to exit the roundabout. Through Tess, and her Tiger 800. He hit her side on, crushing her leg between car and bike, and jettisoning her from the bike. All she saw was sky, floor, sky, floor, before coming to a sudden stop and landing lengthwise onto the kerb at the side of the road. It’s here – half on and half off the kerb – where she came to a stop. Cue 4 Police cars, a Police motorbike, Paramedic car, Ambulance, and 2 hours at the side of the road trying to stabilise her before transport to A&E. Two weeks on, she’s still in hospital (and likely to be there some time) following 4 operations trying to save the leg – things are looking a bit more positive in that way, but the heavy damage to her leg is going to take some time to heal, and may never be the same … she has a long journey ahead of her.
However.
At point of departure from the bike, the Turtle did its thing and deployed. As you can see from the photo below, there’s some scuffing where she’s bounced along the ground, but the main thing to note is the long scuff mark pretty much parallel with (and crossing) her spine.
We firmly, utterly believe that the Helite Turtle airvest saved her, if not from severe spinal damage, then from something much, much worse. As it was, all she’s got on her upper torso (apart from bruising) is 1 cracked vertebrae and 1 cracked rib. Absolutely nothing compared to what could have happened.
So yeah … I guess I’m writing to say, on behalf of myself and Tess … thank you. Not the nicest way to test your product for you, but it bl**dy worked !! Thank you. Because of your product, my wife is still with me.
When, or if, Tess is capable (physically or mentally) of being able to ride again, you can guarantee the first item purchased will be a Helite airvest. Plus, it’s probably time for me to upgrade to a newer model too !

It was good to catch you at the bike show today. As promised I have attached some photos & video from my bike crash which took place near Pitlochry, at the end of June 2019.
As you can see the accident was a back wheel skid which developed into a high side at roughly 50mph. I did a number of flips and went through a fence and hit a tree. The Air Ambulance service was called and had to correct my leg on scene.
I broke the knuckle clean off my femur and had surgery to put in a permanent plate and 9 screws.
Now what I am seriously impressed by, is that I landed on my back, hitting my head (destroying a carbon fibre helmet) and I didn’t have a single upper body bruise. No neck strain, just nothing. To be honest I remember the accident very clearly and felt no upper body pain when hitting the ground. Sadly I felt the legs. Having had dirt bike accidents, with full Alpinestars armour the difference is significant.
I have owned the air vest for roughly 5 years, and have toured all of Spain and Portugal. Worn it everyday as a commuter in the fine Scottish weather and still it performed perfectly.
A couple of my friends who were on scene have since invested in your adventure/touring jackets. Nothing like seeing it to believe it eh.
Hopefully some of this is useable for you guys and you can clean up the video to be a bit clearer. You have made a great product and I hear you are going to be doing cordless vests/ jackets which I can’t wait to see.

The OFF ROAD vest is wireless and easy to use. To turn it on or off, simply press the ON/OFF button located at the bottom right of the airbag vest 3 times, 3 beeps will sound and a green LED will flash.
The OFF ROAD has an autonomy of 25 hours. You can recharge it with the USB cable provided with the vest.
Do not machine wash, do not wash by hand, do not immerse in water or dry clean. The only way to clean the airbag is with a soft cloth slightly soaked in soap. Do not use detergents or bleach. We recommend that you dry them on a hanger in a dry place. Do not put it in the dryer, on a radiator or near a heat source. Do not iron.
The OFF ROAD vest is equipped with 2 independent cartridges. This innovation allows pilots not to have to change the cartridge immediately after a first inflation and to start again immediately.
The electronic system of this airbag switches automatically from the empty cartridge to the full one. The first activation is done with the left cartridge.
When both cartridges are empty, the airbag indicates this via a light and sound signal. It is then necessary to proceed to the replacement of the cartridges by following a very simple and fast procedure.
No, once it is used you will need a replacement. All replacement cartridges can be purchased from our canisters section found in the main menu.
The Electronic Airbag System technology developed by HELITE provides 360° protection.
The falls detected by the system are of two types:
Loss of control of the motorcycle: low side or high side slide.
Collision with an obstacle (vehicle, wall, pole …) from the front, side or rear;
